“IMPRESSIVELY COMPREHENSIVE”…”FUEL” is a vital, superbly assembled documentary that presents an insightful overview of America’s troubled relationship with oil and how alternative and sustainable energies can reduce our country’s — and the world’s — addictive dependence on fossil fuels.”
- Gary Goldstein, LOS ANGELES TIMES

“DYNAMIC, STIRRING…A MUST SEE AND NOT JUST FOR ENVIRONMENTALISTS”…We all know about ethanol, solar-and wind-generated power, hybrid engines and the like. But by the end of “Fuel,” one might very well come out of the theater ready to invest in companies deriving energy from wood chips and algae, or growing food in vertical, inner-city farms.
- Tm Keogh, SEATTLE TIMES

“DEEPLY PERSONAL AND SURPRISINGLY PERSONABLE”…one of the refreshing traits of this action-nudging documentary is Tickell’s willingness to wrestle his own biases. Tickell and writer Johnny O’Hara make a pragmatic case that one solution can’t cure our energy woes. With candor, the doc often lets a nagging question cloud hope: Can energy ever be consequence-free?
- Lisa Kennedy, DENVER POST

It’s time for our next public meeting, and Chicago Biofuels is going back to school! Join us on March 24, at 7pm to learn biodiesel basics 101. Barry Latham will be our instructor for the evening. He teaches a course in Biodiesel at Bloom High School. Barry will walk us through the process of making a small batch of biodiesel from vegetable oil. One lucky attendee will go home with 1L of freshly brewed fuel! Learn all about the environmental, social and economic benefits of making your own fuel from a locally sourced, renewable feedstock!

When: Tuesday March 24, 7:00 pm

Where: Always Delivery 2039 W. Carroll Ave, C122 Chicago IL 60612,

Always Delivery is a local delivery company that uses bio-diesel, tracks carbon use and lowers its impact on the environment whenever possible.
What else: $5.00 suggested donation for the general public; Chicago Biofuels members get in free. Wine, soda and light snacks will be served.

Please RSVP so we know how much food to bring!

This session is a preview of some more in-depth 2 day workshops that Barry will be conducting on the following dates:

March 27-28

April 24-25

More about Barry Latham:

Barry has crafted a curriculum that allows his students to research Biodiesel technology and develop methods for testing their finished product with gas chromatography.Barry Latham was introduced to biodiesel in late 2006 by a colleague, but had to “Google” biodiesel to see what it was. Since then, he has received ~$125,000 in grants, with another $100,000 pending. His Advanced Chemistry Honors students built a 50-gallon reactor, designed a filtration system, and wrote their own labs, quizzes and exams.

Barry is currently offering a 2-day seminar, “Biodiesel in the Classroom,” as an introduction to biodiesel for educators and home-brewers. Barry and his students certify their own biodiesel and
offer their services to the community. More information can be found at the Bloom High School website http://www.bloomhs.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=33322&type=u&rn=40821
