CBF is doing one more B99 group buy this Friday, to be picked-up by appointment. B99 is $5.20/gallon for Chicago Biofuels Members and $5.70 for non-members. Chicago Biofuels volunteer Jessy Bradish represented the svo movement at Kennedy King College’s Urban Earth Day. She explained the environmental and economic benefits of svo during the morning, and in the afternoon gave mini-demonstrations to bus-loads of students brought in to learn about sustainable alternative energies. Chicago Biofuels will be back at KKC on May 1 at their auto show, getting svo cars emissions-tested. Stop on by and support your local coop!

More than fifty people came to CBF’s first spring mixer at LivingRoom Realty (thanks again for hosting!!). Co-founders Pete Probst and Mike Wyrick gave a talk on food versus fuel: the pros and cons of biofuels as a solution to the energy crisis. We watched clips from the film Revolution Green: A True Story of Biodiesel in America and discussed CBF’s plan for the
summer of 2008.

Also on Tuesday April 15th, while the rest of us were at home subtracting line 52 from line 48, Jessy Bradish gave a talk on straight vegetable oil cars at Harold Washington College’s alternative energy forum. Roughly fifty people attended the presentation, which was followed by a spirited question and answer session. CBF has been asked to attend future events, and will be awarded an honorarium from the city for speaking. Way to go Jessy!!

Spring has Sprung and Chicago Biofuels is ramping up for what is certain to be our most productive season ever. We’re inviting everyone to our first public networking event. The fun starts at 7pm to and lasts till around 9pm on Thursday April 10th. This event will be unlike others in that we hope to make it a larger networking event with more public involvement. To that end, we’ll have wine and hors dourves, as well as an area for people to distribute information about other ventures of interest to the green community. We will also have a discussion on the growing Food vs. Fuel controversy, address the rising price of fossil fuels and its impact on the biofuels market and have a special preview of the film, Revolution Green: A True Story of Biodiesel in America. Chicago Biofuels is also poised for a big move to a great new space…hopefully we’ll be able to reveal more at the April 10th event…guess you’ll just have to come to find out!! This event is open to everyone, so bring a friend!! Members get in free, $5 suggested donation for the general public!

We’ll be holding our meeting at LivingRoom Realty, 1530 W Superior St in Chicago. LivingRoom Realty (officially opening later in April) is the brand new venture of Chicago Biofuels member Abraham McClurg and his business partner, Annie Coleman. LivingRoom Realty is an independent real estate office and gallery space founded on the principles of sustainability, creativity and community, and we can’t thank them enough for hosting us!

Spring is coming and we’re working hard to be increase our accessibility and reach as the temperatures increase. We’re hunkered down writing grants, finding corporate sponsors and generally raising funds. If anyone has any leads or advice on this front, please contact us HERE! We also hope to relaunch our website in the not too distant future so stay tuned!

This Saturday will be a great time to meet other Chicago Biofuels members, or if you’re not already a member, this would be a great time to join! You’ll also be able to check out our Waste Vegetable Oil Filtration System and talk biodiesel with other enthusiasts. If you’re feeling really ambitious and want to help with our move, please respond to this email and we’ll put ya to work!
