With the price of biodiesel today and the uncertainty of future prices, Chicago Biofuels is making a bulk purchase of B 99.9 for our members (contact us if you’re not a member but would still like to purchase B99.9…though members are a priority and the cost is higher for non-members)…We are taking pre-payments through June 3rd, and this is the only way to guarantee you will have B 99.9 in the near future. Because of the rising cost of Biodiesel and the cost of delivery, handling and distribution, Chicago Biofuels is no longer able to front the money for bulk B 99.9 purchases. The next biodiesel purchase after this one will be a “group buy,” with fuel only being purchased after enough money is collected to make a bulk purchase. We are unable to predict how long that will take, so prepay now and get in on this week’s order. The current purchase price for members is $32 for each 5 gallons. The price also includes a refundable $1 container deposit. Biodiesel will be available for pickup from 10am - 2pm next Saturday, June 7th (Pickup Location TBD) or by appointment. Please contact us with any questions. CLICK HERE to make your payment!!

Thursday, April 10, 2008
More than fifty people came to CBF’s first spring mixer at LivingRoom Realty (thanks again for hosting!!). Co-founders Pete Probst and Mike Wyrick gave a talk on food versus fuel: the pros and cons of biofuels as a solution to the energy crisis. We watched clips from the film Revolution Green: A True Story of Biodiesel in America and discussed CBF’s plan for the
summer of 2008.

Also on Tuesday April 15th, while the rest of us were at home subtracting line 52 from line 48, Jessy Bradish gave a talk on straight vegetable oil cars at Harold Washington College’s alternative energy forum. Roughly fifty people attended the presentation, which was followed by a spirited question and answer session. CBF has been asked to attend future events, and will be awarded an honorarium from the city for speaking. Way to go Jessy!!

Spring has Sprung and Chicago Biofuels is ramping up for what is certain to be our most productive season ever. We’re inviting everyone to our first public networking event. The fun starts at 7pm to and lasts till around 9pm on Thursday April 10th. This event will be unlike others in that we hope to make it a larger networking event with more public involvement. To that end, we’ll have wine and hors dourves, as well as an area for people to distribute information about other ventures of interest to the green community. We will also have a discussion on the growing Food vs. Fuel controversy, address the rising price of fossil fuels and its impact on the biofuels market and have a special preview of the film, Revolution Green: A True Story of Biodiesel in America. Chicago Biofuels is also poised for a big move to a great new space…hopefully we’ll be able to reveal more at the April 10th event…guess you’ll just have to come to find out!! This event is open to everyone, so bring a friend!! Members get in free, $5 suggested donation for the general public!

We’ll be holding our meeting at LivingRoom Realty, 1530 W Superior St in Chicago. LivingRoom Realty (officially opening later in April) is the brand new venture of Chicago Biofuels member Abraham McClurg and his business partner, Annie Coleman. LivingRoom Realty is an independent real estate office and gallery space founded on the principles of sustainability, creativity and community, and we can’t thank them enough for hosting us!

Chicago Biofuels is on the move!! Starting March 1st we will no longer be operating out of our space at 1500 S. Western Ave. Don’t worry, Chicago Biofuels isn’t going anywhere, we just need to find a new home. Before we go, we wanted to invite everyone over one last time for a big fuel sale. We’d rather not move our current stock of biodiesel and filtered veggie oil if we don’t have to, so we’re offering it up to our members and the public next Saturday, February 23rd from 1pm to approx. 4pm. We’ll have Veggie Oil and Biodiesel ready to go in 5-gallon cube containers. There is a deposit of $3.50 on each plastic cube, but you get $3.00 credit upon return. You’re also welcome to bring your own container, but get there early, cause it’s first come, first served! Prices are $3.65/gallon for ASTM Spec Biodiesel and $1.50/gallon each for Filtered Vegetable Oil for CBF members. Non-members pay an additional $.25/gal for each. Temperatures are on the rise, so now is a great time to start integrating more biodiesel into your fueling regimen. As always, we will have bumper stickers and T-shirts available.

This Saturday will be a great time to meet other Chicago Biofuels members, or if you’re not already a member, this would be a great time to join! You’ll also be able to check out our Waste Vegetable Oil Filtration System and talk biodiesel with other enthusiasts. If you’re feeling really ambitious and want to help with our move, please respond to this email and we’ll put ya to work! We’re also looking for a new permanent space for Chicago Biofuels, so if you have any leads, please let us know! As always, feel free to respond to this email with any questions or comments!

See you Saturday!

Your Friends at Chicago Biofuels,

PS. For fuel purchasing, the easiest thing to do is come to the North West loading dock of the Midland building. It’s just west of Western on 15th St. We should be at the second loading dock from western ave. Check the google maps here . If you have problems finding it, give Pete a call at 312-388-4365
